There are approximately 24 incarnations of Hindu god Vishnu, and Kalki is said to be the last and final incarnation of Lord Vishnu. There are many mystical myths and predictions which date back to the times of Puranas which mention the birth of Kalki. But how true these prophecies can be? Has the Lord already taken birth? 1. A Harbinger of the Apocalypse

The Kali Yuga is said to be brought to an end by the return of Vishnu in the avatar of Kalki. Riding on his noble white horse Devadatta, Kalki will come down from heaven flashing a terrifying sword to kill the Godless and the cruel. Displaying his unequaled greatness and riding with lightning speed, he will kill millions of those thieves who have dared to dress as kings.

2. Kalki: The Destroyer

It is believed that Kalki will bring about the destruction of the world when mankind has completely forsaken religion, when nothing is known of the techniques of sacrifice, even by word. Kalki is foreseen to come like a comet and carry a fiery sword causing the annihilation of the wicked crude men at the end of the Kali Yuga.

3. The Beginning of the End

According to Hindu mythology, universal time is made of four great periods or yugas: Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga. It is described that Kalki will appear at the conjunction of two Yugas, namely at the end of Kali Yuga and at the beginning of Satya Yuga. Currently, mankind is living through the Kali Yuga which is estimated to be 432,000 years long. Kali Yuga began after the Battle of Kurukshetra, marking the end of the reign of King Parikshit, some 5000 years ago. Therefore, there are still about 427,000 years left before Kalki is said to arrive.

4. The Maintainer of Spirituality

At the start of the Kali Yuga, Lord Krishna disappeared from the earth leaving a golden age for humans in his place. This era of a golden age is predicted to last about 10,000 years until the shortcomings of human overrule the legacy Krishna left behind. After that, the low qualities of human nature, especially greed and materialism will grow in strength. People will lose all interest in religious matters. Kalki’s arrival will be seen as a blessing for the few remaining holy people.

5. The End of Kali Yuga

Things are then destined to go from bad to worse at the end of the Kali Yuga. Governments and police will be overflowing with corruption, human values will deteriorate, and there will be no protection or solution to crimes of any kind. Men will fight within themselves, there will be constant wars, and the world will become a terrible place to live. It will be a place where people are born to suffer and chaos will thrive.

6. Kalki’s Birth Predictions

Kalki Purana, the ancient Indian sculpture, outlines the circumstances of the time and the place of birth of Kalki. According to the Purana, when the teachings of the Veda shall nearly have ceased, and the end of the Kali Yuga shall be near, a portion of the divine being who is the beginning and the end, who believes all things shall descend upon the earth, will be born as Kalki in the family of an eminent Brahmin, of Shambhala village, blessed with eight superhuman gifts.

7. Kalki’s Parents

Kalki will descend to earth as a human in the month of Baisakha on the 12th day after the full moon. Kalki’s father will be named Vishnujasha and his mother will be Sumati. He will be born in the Hindu month of Baisakha, which begins on 14th or 15th April and lasts until 14th or 15th May. His birth after 12 days from full moon day can be anywhere between 26th April to 15th May.

8. Kalki’s look

It is believed that Kalki will grow up to be a very powerful, intelligent and a brave man. He will be able to bring any kind of weapon or vehicle before him just by thinking about it. He will be very fair but anger will change his color to black. He will also wear clothes on his chest with a symbol of Shrivatsa. During the battle, he is mentioned using two swords in his hands. It is also stated that the arrival of Kalki on the earth will mark the beginning of the Sat Yuga again.

9. The Prophecy for Priests

The prophecies also describe what will happen to those who are supposed to keep the faith pure and strong: the priests. Priests are mentioned to be the fallen souls, who use religion as a means of livelihood and profession. They cannot even execute their own vows and indulge in abominable activities such as selling wine and meat. They are cruel by nature and only want to satisfy their bellies and genitals.

10. The Purana Prophecies

Vishnu Purana also makes some other mystifying prophecies about Kalki. It states that Kalki will have three elder brothers and the king of the land where Kalki will be born is named Vishakhjupa. The motive of Kalki’s birth will be to destroy Koli, which is similar to Anti-Christ and after whom the present time period is named. Koli could be a person as well as the vices which belong to the current period. The wife of Kalki is named as the Padma who lives in Sinhala, which is now commonly referred as Sri Lanka.
